Who I am

Hiya, I’m Gemma. I’m an Empowerment Coach & Facilitator. I hold space to breathe, create, move, talk & be.

I want to empower you to make your own healthy choices. I believe I have everything in my tool belt to thrive. I want to encourage you to believe the same to be true for you.

I create spaces where you can be yourself. My approach is calm, gentle, nurturing and fun.

I hold 121 Empowerment Coaching sessions, Mindfulness and Relaxation sessions, Sharing circles, Move my body sessions as well as other creative offerings online and in-person.

I’m trained in Facilitation, Mental Health First Aid, I’m a Certified MOE Coach as well as a Coach Trainer and an individual member of the Association for Coaching.

I’m currently based in Heanor, Derbyshire and open to travel. I work with individuals, groups and organisations offering one-off sessions as well as longer experiences.

If helpful to know my journey, I’ll write about it here. This is my experience in my words and it’s important to say this doesn’t accredit or discredit my ability to be a Coach and/or Facilitator.

I experienced abuse, bullying, harassment and violence as a young person. I enjoyed academia and was encouraged in this area. I used overachieving and overconsuming to mask the trauma I carried. I found it challenging to discern healthy relationships and set boundaries.

I graduated from university with a First class degree, started a career in marketing and I’ve travelled the world. On paper all looked well.

In my teens and early adulthood I developed addictions to alcohol and drugs. I filled every living moment of my day so I didn’t have to deal with my emotions. This resulted in physical and mental ill-health.

I’ve various therapy along the way such as talking therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), person-centred counselling and Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy. I started to read about trauma, the body and the brain.

I also found meditation, sharing circles, ecstatic dance, coaching and peer-led support helpful. These were and still are extremely helpful for my physical and mental health as I went through recovery from alcohol and drugs.

When I acknowledged the past, I started living more in the here and now and could start to make plans for the future letting go of unhealthy relationships, addiction included.

I find environments where I am empowered, I have freedom and I have choice the most inspiring and nurturing. I am bringing more of these environments into the world through what I offer.

When I’m not working I like walking in nature, swimming, singing, writing poetry, gardening, cooking, baking, dancing, watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race and anything fabulous.

I tell part of my story not to dwell on the past nor create comparison. I want to be real and I want to show I am a human with a lived experience.
